PROCUREMENT GUIDE

How to Choose a Laser Welding Machine

Choose the welding format from the joint, access and production arrangement. Power belongs in the comparison, but it cannot describe how the parts are held, moved or welded.

Describe the welding task

  • Materials, thicknesses and joint drawing
  • Seam position and access
  • Handheld or repeatable automatic path
  • Part holding, loading and changeover
  • Representative sample parts
  • Installation, training and production schedule

Start with the joint and access

Record both materials, their thicknesses, joint geometry and the position in which the seam will be welded. Show access restrictions and the finished result required. The same nominal laser power can sit in handheld and automatic families, so the drawing and work arrangement must lead the choice.

List recurring joints separately from occasional work. If several assemblies are involved, identify a representative sample for each. A general statement such as stainless steel welding leaves the supplier without the dimensions, fit-up and access information needed for a useful configuration discussion.

Choose handheld or automatic as a production decision

Handheld equipment supports an operator-guided process and needs a clear description of access, part positioning and operator work. An automatic arrangement needs a repeatable path, controlled part presentation and a plan for changeover. Neither format is defined by power alone.

Victory Industry lists VIW, VIW-A, VIW-D, VIW-F, VIW-P, VIW-S and VIW-T in the handheld category, while VIW-R is the automatic entry. Keep the full family name with the proposed model so a shared 1500W, 2000W or 3000W value does not hide the format difference.

Compare the equipment around the complete process

Ask the proposal to identify the model, power, welding head, wire feeding arrangement, cooling and electrical requirements that apply to the offered configuration. Listed alternatives are not all automatically included. Record the quoted selection separately from the source catalog range.

Describe fixtures, part movement, extraction and the available installation space. For an automatic system, include path changes and production changeover. For handheld work, include cable reach, access and how parts will be located consistently.

Use sample review without inventing performance

Representative samples help organize the discussion, but the website does not publish customer-specific test results. Ask what drawings, samples and acceptance criteria the team needs. Keep any stated assumptions and the exact configuration with the response.

Do not turn a result discussed for one material, joint or setup into a guarantee for another. If the workpiece changes, repeat the review. The quotation should identify what has been assessed, what remains open and which acceptance activity is proposed.

Confirm service and commercial scope in writing

Victory Industry publishes installation and commissioning, training, technical support, maintenance and upgrades. Ask which services apply to the proposed welding machine and destination. Technical support is available 24/7, while travel, parts, warranty and response conditions still require project-specific confirmation.

Align model, components, options and service before comparing price. Add delivery, payment, warranty, packing and requested documents to the same record. This gives purchasing and production teams a common basis for the final decision.

Purchasing questions

Is laser power the first selection step?

No. Start with materials, thicknesses, joint geometry, access and the production arrangement. Power is one part of the proposed configuration.

When should I discuss an automatic system?

Discuss it when the work has a repeatable path and the parts can be presented and held consistently. Include changeover and handling requirements.

What should remain with a sample result?

Keep the drawing revision, material, joint, setup, machine configuration and acceptance criteria together.

Discuss your laser welding application

Share the workpiece, drawing and intended process. The team can review the relevant equipment, configuration questions and requested service scope.
